From professionals to amateur, mid-level to community, youth to college, the Treasure Valley has opportunities galore to see see live theater and storytelling events. A thriving opera and ballet scene is also present, providing audiences many different avenues to explore a night out with the arts.

Alley Repertory Theater

Alley Repertory Theater is the premier professional theater company located in Garden City’s rapidly expanding Live-Work-Create District nestled in the heart of Boise, Idaho.

Alley Repertory Theater’s productions tackle a range of themes for people and cultures from all walks of life.

From contemporary, timely, Pulitzer Prize-winning plays to well-known musicals and wild Christmas Extravaganzas, Alley Rep strives to be a company that produces quality, innovative theater.

Three productions a season, generally in October, December, and March.

The Boise Bard Players

The Boise Bard Players is a nonprofit, mobile theatre company making Shakespeare and other classics affordable, relatable, and accessible to the Treasure Valley and beyond. We perform in unconventional locations like historical sites, parks, and breweries, bringing the Bard to the people right in their neighborhood. We exclusively hire local actors, paying a working wage to ensure there are #NoMoreStarvingArtists in our community. Learn more by visiting the link below.

Boise Contemporary Theater

Founded in 1997, BCT is the only nonprofit professional theater within 300 miles dedicated to producing challenging new work. BCT is a recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, a two-time recipient of the National Theater Company Award from the American Theater Wing, and the 2022–23 City of Boise Cultural Ambassador. In its first 25 Seasons, BCT presented over 90 MainStage productions, including 25 world premieres, such as Eric Coble’s The Velocity of Autumn (which continued to Broadway).

BCT typically has a season of five productions between October and April/May. The company also has education opportunities, classes, staged readings, and our hosts of the BIPOC festival every August.

Boise Little Theater

Boise Little Theater is the longest-running community theater in Idaho. For over 70 years BLT has produced plays in all genres: contemporary and classical, comedy, drama, and musicals.

BLT produces seven shows a year, plus one production with young adults in conjunction with Boise Parks and Recreation.

Boise State University Theater, Film, & Creative Writing

The Theatre Arts Department at Boise State University produces 3 to 4 mainstage shows per year, usually in their main performance space, the Danny Peterson Theatre. (Performances, from time-to-time, also occur in The Morrison Center or Special Events Center).

Eagle Theatre Company

A new, non-profit community theater in Eagle, ID that had their inaugural season in 2022-23. Created in partnership with the Eagle Performing Arts Center.

Emmett Community Playhouse

Founded in 1997, the Emmett Community Playhouse aims to provide live theater opportunities for the residents of Gem County and to provide experiences in acting, directing, and other theater arts for individuals of all ages.

Emmett Mystery Dinner Theater

Founded in 2024, this dinner theater in Emmett, ID provides a creative space for the theatrical arts.

The Huckleberry Star Theater

A community theater in the Treasure Valley producing family-friendly Broadway-style musicals.

Producing quality theater productions in the G or PG range, a perfect night out for families. Previous examples of shows include: The Music Man and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

Idaho Shakespeare Festival

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival has been entertaining audiences since 1977, beginning in downtown Boise and now residing at their current location off Warm Spring. Performances are in a 770-seat, state-of-the-art Festival Amphitheater & Reserve nestled in a unique habitat.

The summer season usually consists of five shows, starting in late May and running through the end of September (plus education and youth tours in the late-winter and early spring).

Knock 'em Dead Theater

First producing shows in 1984, Knock 'em Dead has long been a Treasure Valley staple.

Meridian CUE Theatre

A community based theatre for youth to learn and hone technical theatre skills.

Migration Theory

Migration Theory, producing Art That Moves, aims to capsize the conventional art experience, taking folks out of the theater and into the community.

Previous projects include: SuperSecretSiteSpecificSomething, Small Matters, and another agatha - a myth of perception.

Music Theatre of Idaho

Based in Nampa, Idaho, Music Theatre of Idaho performs professional quality, family-oriented (and affordable) Broadway musicals at the Nampa Civic Center.

Entertaining audiences since 1997, MTI produces 6 to 9 musicals annually.

Stage Coach Theatre

Located off Orchard on the Boise Bench, Stage Coach Theatre was established in 1981. The company aims to bring quality theater to the community at a low cost.

In a typical year, STC brings eight productions to the stage, with a variety of comedy, drama, and musicals to choose from.

Starlight Mountain Theatre

Located in Garden Valley, ID, this small, outdoor theater features an array of musicals, with productions typically running May through September.

This company also offers an Educational Outreach Program, with a Kids Camp (ages 5 - 18) and Theatre Camp (ages 12 - 18)

Story Story Night

Story Story Night builds community and inspires connection through authentic storytelling.

Bringing live storytelling to the stage through performances, workshops, and partnerships, Story Story Night has been entertaining and informing audiences in Idaho since 2010.

Treasure Valley Children's Theater

TVCT recently moved into their new home at the Overland Park Shopping Center.
